Inventing the Internet

While the engineers of technical aspects of the Internet are well known and enjoy deserved praise, those of us who designed and implemented the architecture of the industry have been overlooked. In particular Rick Adams of UUNET, Kieth Mitchell of LINX and PIPEX and ??? of NSFnet

It has to be remembered that telecommunications in 1990s was dominated by national monopolies and the US with a few dominant telecom corporations. Interconnections between operators was poor, especially in data networks. and governed by literally thousands of bi-lateral agreements. It was this that stopped x.25 Frame-Relay and other data networking protocols from becoming globally connected.
